Guides · Reciprocity
Texas is the biggest ladder state in the country, and its reciprocity list fits in one sentence: Louisiana and Arkansas. Everything else is the exam route.
From Louisiana: endorsement exists — and Louisiana journeymen working gas in Texas cross into Texas's natural gas rules as well; the TSBPE treats the gas fitter credential as part of the picture. From Arkansas: endorsement requires the Arkansas journeyman license to have been held at least 4 years. A freshly minted Arkansas journeyman is not yet endorsable.
The same two doors swing back: Louisiana and Arkansas are where a Texas journeyman has an endorsement argument. Everywhere else — including big destinations like Florida, Arizona and Colorado — your Texas license is experience evidence for the destination's own process (in Florida and California, a contractor-route process).
Qualify on experience: 8,000 documented hours, the registration rules satisfied as the board directs, the 48-hour course where it applies, and the exam. It is a longer road than an endorsement and a shorter one than starting over — your verified years count toward the gate.
Pairs computed: Louisiana → Texas · Florida → Texas · all pairs. Full Texas rules: Texas ladder page.
